29

Alt-country singer/songwriter Ryan cranks out new music at an alarming rate—29 is his third album in a year, and his second in only three months. It’s old hat by now to complain that he should have distilled all that work into one great album, but three good ones is nothing to sneer at, either. More than his previous two releases, 29 should appeal to those who dug Ryan’s early-2000s solo work. Centered around the singer’s own piano and plaintive voice, 29 includes enough enchanting turns of phrase and intriguingly haunted melodies to suggest that sorting through his prolific output will continue to be worthwhile.
