After stints performing for Dolly Parton and bluegrass devotee David Parmley, and performing on records by Dierks Bentley and Jerry Reed, Randy Kohrs set out on his own. With his sixth solo album, Randy blends country and bluegrass with generous amounts of soul and hints of jazz and gospel. The soulful “If You Think It’s Hot Here” showcases Randy’s surprisingly rugged tenor, backed by a gospel group. He tries a bit of scat singing on “This Must Be the Bottom” and tastefully covers Webb Pierce’s “It’s Been So Long.” Quicksand marks another step in the right direction for this up-and-comer.
