As soon as you hear that laugh, you know Randy Houser is in the room. And that hilarious giggle was plentiful yesterday (June 2) as Randy and co-writers Rob Hatch and Jason Sellers celebrated their recent No. 1 hit, “Goodnight Kiss.”
Although it wasn’t Randy’s first No. 1—he previously topped the charts with “How Country Feels” and “Runnin’ Outta Moonlight”—the occasion held a special meaning to him as his first No. 1 as a writer on his own song. And while No. 1 parties are often emotional under such circumstances, the only sentiment on display was sheer joy as each of the writers expressed their gratitude to one another and to their teams of support, including promotions staff, publishers and performing rights organizations. In fact, Rob had the capacity room doubled over in laughter as his extended thanks included his expectant wife, SESAC representative Shannan Tipton Hatch, twice.
Randy’s Stoney Creek record label staff, including founder Benny Brown and general manager Jon Loba, showed off their sweet new digs for the event, which features an open room perfect for future No. 1 and platinum parties. Artists Dustin Lynch, Lindsay Ell and Kristy Lee Cook, along with Sherrié Austin, Sonia Leigh and American Young’s Jon Stone were on hand to toast their friends’ success, and publishers and PROs presented awards of guitars, medallions and plaques, including a uniquely beautiful piece from Magic Mustang’s Juli Newton-Griffith, who presented each writer with an oversized print of the song charted by the Nashville numbering system.
Congratulations to everyone who made “Goodnight Kiss” a success. Here’s to taking Randy’s new single, “Like a Cowboy,” to the top!
