When Martina McBride releases her new album, Everlasting, on April 8, fans of the famously strong singer will hear just how elastic Martina’s voice can be. A collection of primarily soul covers, all of them favorites of the CMA and ACM Award-winning vocalist, Everlasting features her cooing through “Do Right Woman, Do Right Man,” growling on “Bring It On Home to Me” and, as heard exclusively here, dazzling on “Little Bit of Rain.”
“‘Little Bit of Rain’ is a less well-known song than some of the others on the album,” says Martina. “I remember hearing Linda Ronstadt’s version of it when I was a teenager. We wanted to do a very simple, acoustic-style arrangement and it’s a little more bluesy than the original by Fred Neil.”
Along with Martina’s elegantly understated performance, the track is elevated by the guitar solo of Reggie Young, the revered session musician who played with Elvis Presley, Dusty Springfield and others. “Reggie was part of the famed the Memphis Boys,” Martina raves. “The pairing of the guitar and B3 organ on the solo is one of my favorite things about the record.”
Here’s the track list for Everlasting, to be released April 8 on Martina’s own Vinyl Recordings.
