Cole Swindell’s self-titled debut album hit stores on Tuesday (Feb. 18), and it has been a crazy week for the Georgia native, by any measure.
On release day, he visited the Late Show With David Letterman to play his breakout smash, “Chillin’ It” (video below), which looks to be a contender for the No. 1 position within the next week or two. On top of that, Cole had to make the rounds at Country Radio Seminar in Nashville, the first time he’s done that since he landed a record deal, and even gave a free show for Sirius XM listeners at the Exit/In.
“Last year I was at the Bridge Bar just hanging out with my roommate that worked at a label, just wondering if I'd ever get a record deal,” he recalls. “A year later, man, I’m here doing interviews and playing shows, talking to country radio. That’s who’s responsible for giving me a shot.”
Between his big TV blitz and the radio hobnobbing, it has been an exhausting week for Cole, but he was prepared ahead of time. “I knew it was gonna be like this,” he says. “If you're not smart enough to do whatever it takes to promote yourself, then you’re an idiot. I told [my label and management] to keep me busy, and they listened.”
