Up-and-coming singer/songwriter Maggie Sajak has released the lyric video for her song “Live Out Loud,” which offers a hopeful message of living for today. Maggie, a college sophomore, was inspired to write the song after meeting 16-year-old Muriel Walters, a cancer patient at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
“She’s just a very positive strong girl, and she’s dealt with a lot for a long time now,” explains Maggie of the experience. “She had such a great outlook on life that I thought a song about enjoying life and taking advantage of every second you have would be fitting for her.” Proceeds from download sales of the song on iTunes will go toward cancer research at Johns Hopkins.
Maggie has also tried to apply the message to her own life, when the going gets rough. “You try to remember all your blessings when things seem tough,” she says. “It’s easy to let little things get you down, but soon as you start listing pff in your head all the things you're thankful for—little and big—it gets you in a better mood.”
If her last name sounds familiar, it should. Maggie's father is longtime Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak. The game show icon has been very supportive of his daughter’s move into country music and served as an example for how to keep priorities straight.
“He’s been really supportive and he’s given me a lot of great advice,” says Maggie. “With him having this career I’ve been able to see how he balances it with his personal life and his family life. I definitely see it’s possible to have whatever sort of family life you want and still have a successful career.”
