Granted, Trisha Yearwood has always been attractive. Heck, her beauty inside and out snagged the Garth Brooks himself. Yet these days, after a much-talked-about 35-pound weight loss, even Trisha is having a hard time recognizing the woman in the mirror . . . and in the celebrity magazines.
Consider this aha moment during a recent magazine shoot.
“My niece was with me that day taking candids with the iPhone,” Trisha recalls during her latest interview with Country Weekly. “When I saw the finished pictures, I thought there was no way. I thought for sure that they had retouched me to hell and back. I put the candid and professional pictures side by side and they are almost identical. I could not believe it.”
She tells another story about a different photo from that same shoot. “There is a picture of me juggling peaches and, honestly, I don’t know what they did to me,” she says, laughing. “That woman is beautiful and all, but I don’t look like that. They took some lines out of my face for sure. I mean, I want to look like her! The people at the magazine said they did very little airbrushing, but I don’t know. I guess I’m a little sensitive because I don’t want people to think I think I look like that.”
Determined to remain grounded about all this weight loss hoopla, Trisha says the transformation was purely her own doing. “This was something I wanted to do for myself. When you are younger, all you think about is what you look like in a pair of jeans. The older you get, the more it’s about what’s going on in the inside. I think a lot of our health issues come from what we eat. My ‘go-to’ indulgence has always been savory over sweet. I would take a cheeseburger with fries over a piece of cake any day . . . but I notice now that when I do have that cheeseburger, which I haven’t in a while, I feel sluggish. It’s how I used to feel every day and I just didn’t know it.”
Of course, Trisha wouldn’t be Trisha if she did not admit the challenges that she still faces each day. “I was that person that thought it was total crap when people said they were craving a salad,” she says with a laugh. “I know now that when you change your tastebuds, you really do start craving those foods. You might never stop craving fried chicken, but you just find a way to not have it very often. It’s a struggle and it’s hard. But I’m winning right now, so I’m going to enjoy it. I want to stay here because it feels better.”
