When Ronnie Dunn began experiencing a little vocal uneasiness during a recent performance in Laredo, Texas, and had to cut short his set, the big-voiced cowboy didn't just retreat to his dressing room. Instead, he sauntered into the appreciative crowd and pressed the flesh.
"I'd forgotten what it meant to be accessible . . . how important it is to connect one to one with real people. It may be the most powerful force on earth," says Ronnie, who as half of monster duo Brooks & Dunn regularly had to play across the barricades to stadiums full of fans.
“I struggled with my voice in Laredo and had to quit after 10 songs into the show. Finally, I stopped, apologized and asked if they were OK with me coming out and shaking hands and taking pictures. Their response was overwhelmingly positive,” Ronnie continues. “I just feel like many of us have lost touch with the power of personal connection. We text and e-mail but we seldom really connect anymore."
