So if you’re keeping up with the new season of ABC’s Nashville, you know tortured singer/songwriter/non-shaver Deacon Claybourne is having a rough go of it.
After all, Deacon is a frequently relapsing alcoholic who almost killed the great Rayna James—country superstar and mother of his child—during his last binge.
The actor who plays Deacon, one Chip Esten, is in fact himself a singer/songwriter who has even played the Grand Ole Opry .
But that’s where the similarities end.
“I’m very different than Deacon in many, many ways, but there’s a lot of ‘There but for the grace of God go I,’” Chip recently told members of the media.
“He’s had it harder than I’ve probably had it so it’s taken its toll and he’s got his demons that he battles and I guess everybody does, but I’m pretty different,” he said. “But I’m glad for it.”
