Guess how many women are in the Top 20 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart right now . Go ahead.
The answer is two, or one and a half, depending on how you view it: Keith Urban and Miranda Lambert are at No. 16 with the duet “We Were Us,” while Taylor Swift is the only woman holding her own spot, at No. 15.
Luke Bryan has said the lack of ladies on country radio “sucks,” and now it’s Carrie Underwood’s turn.
“I would love to see that a little more equaled out, but it will happen,” Carrie told CMT Radio. “We’ll get there.”
Carrie is the last woman to have a No. 1 at country radio, with “See You Again,” and when she did, there were no other ladies in the rest of the Top 20.
Carrie says folks like Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn made the way for her, and she needs to pay it forward.
“I think it took all those people to pave that for us,” Underwood said. “I still think we have a long way to go.”
