Turns out Tim McGraw is really close to his doctor. In fact, Dr. Paul Thomas, a Nashville orthopedic surgeon, even bought one of the houses that Tim and his country star wife, Faith Hill, once owned.
A few years back, Tim was feeling particularly grateful after a doctor's office visit, and the country star asked what he might do for his favorite physician.
Nothing really, Dr. Thomas replied, I've got everything I need.
I insist, Tim responded.
Well, there is this favorite charity of mine, Dr. Thomas began.
And that's how, about two years later, Tim McGraw ended up singing Saturday night (Aug. 24) on the lawn of Dr. Thomas' country estate for 350 affluent supporters of Show Hope, a charity that helps couples adopt children.
The charity, started by Christian singer/songwriter Steven Curtis Chapman, has helped more than 4,000 couples pay part of the those incredibly high fees that come with adoption from overseas or right here in the U.S.
That favor Tim did, of course, won't stop Dr. Thomas from giving Tim medical advice. Recently, the good doctor told Tim, an avid exerciser, that he might want to ease up on all the weightlifting he does. No dice.
"Tim looked at me," Dr. Thomas said, "and he said, 'Doc, no one wants to see a fat-ass country music star.'"
