You’ve heard Blake Shelton’s No. 1 hit “Boys ’Round Here,” right? Among other things, Blake toasts the ladies from his rural locale with the line shaking that sugar sweet as Dixie Crystals.
Well, Dixie’s parent company, Imperial Sugar Company (ISC), took notice of the tune, which was penned by Rhett Akins, Dallas Davidson and Craig Wiseman. And ISC decided to pay Blake back, in a deliciously good way.
The Houston-based company hired artist Reginald Adams to create a portrait of Blake comprised entirely of Dixie Crystals sugar varieties, including granulated, light brown, dark brown and turbinado. Reginald is known in the area for his mosaics and founded the Museum of Cultural Arts Houston (MOCAH). The confectionary portrait measures 30 by 30 inches and was completed over 30 hours. Check out a video of the process below.
“I really enjoy working with materials of different sizes, shapes, colors and textures involved with mosaic art,” said Reginald in a statement. “I’m very excited to be involved with a tribute to a fellow artist and to be creating my first mosaic portrait using various types of Dixie Crystals sugars for ISC.”
