A very few pop artists, like Darius Rucker, have succeeded in crossing over into country music. Many others, like Jessica Simpson, have failed.
So Sheryl Crow doesn’t take it for granted that her first country single, “Easy,” has cracked the Top 20. Sheryl has her first full couintry album, Feels Like Home, coming out Sept. 10.

“I’ve seen other kind of pop-oriented people come over to the format and kinda try to capitalize on the loyalty of the country fan base, and I’m super-persnickety about it,” Sheryl said recently.
“I feel like it’s a humbling experience to get to play for these fans. I mean, they love their country artists, but I also feel like a huge part of my fan base, they listen to country. That’s what we all listen to now.”
Songwriting and a nudge from Brad Paisley are what led her to come to country.
“Used to, you had some great songwriting at pop and at rock. I feel like the best songwriting, undeniably, and the best artistry exists in country. So, you know, I hope they feel like I belong here.”
Well, a good start is showing your country roots by starting sentences with “Used to.”
