Singer Scotty McCreery is getting a taste of the tough side of the music industry, as he is being sued by his former manager Todd Cassetty .
Todd’s lawsuit, filed in Davidson County Chancery Court, claims that the American Idol champ has failed to make payment for services rendered while the pair worked together and seeks a money judgment that encompasses actual, consequential and punitive damages.
Scotty was signed as Todd’s first management client in October 2012 , after being released from his post-Idol contract with XIX Entertainment. According to reports, the lawsuit alleges that Todd was promised 15 percent of revenues but was later offered only 2 percent by Scotty’s mother, Judy. An official management agreement never materialized and the pair terminated their relationship in April. Todd, a Music Row veteran, declined to comment on the lawsuit.
A representative for Scotty sent the following statement on his behalf:
“There is no truth to these allegations. I have offered to pay Todd more than once, but he wanted an unreasonable amount for only five months of work. Anyone who knows me knows how I conduct myself, so I am not worried they will believe any of this. This is just an attempt to embarrass me and my family. The facts will come out when we have our day in court.”
