Toby Keith will be holding his Oklahoma Twister Relief Concert in Norman, Okla., this Saturday (July 6), to help the victims of the recent tornadoes in his home state. In the July 15 issue of Country Weekly, Toby talks about the devastation that hit Oklahoma, his new single and other topics.
“Okies are pretty tough and they do bounce back pretty fast,” Toby told Country Weekly prior to the concert. “But these latest [storms] were about as bad as I’ve ever seen. There are just miles and miles of nothingness.”
In this exclusive cover story, Toby notes that his latest single, “Drinks After Work,” is a little different for him in a couple of ways.
“It’s one of about five or six that I’ve recorded [as singles] that I didn’t write,” Toby says of the tune written by Luke Laird, Natalie Hemby and Barry Dean. “I didn’t think I could even sing it, it’s so different. It’s the same way I felt about ‘I Wanna Talk About Me’ a few years ago.”
Toby also talks about the blossoming musical career of his daughter, Krystal, and his recent USO tour of military bases. Check out more of Toby in the July 15 issue of Country Weekly , on sale now.
