This past Sunday (June 16) is only the second Father’s Day that Dierks Bentley spent without his dad, who died a little over a year ago .
Dierks is remembering him—and all losses and heartbreaks—with a dark-yet-rockin’ new single, “Bourbon in Kentucky.” And Dierks hopes it keeps fans guessing as to what the rest of his upcoming album, Riser, has in store.
“It was just something different that my hard-core fans would be surprised to hear,” Dierks tells United Stations radio.
“It just opens the door to a whole new dimension, and it just was different. I think when people hear that, they won’t be able to pigeonhole the record and be like, ‘Oh, I know exactly what he’s doing here; what he’s trying to do,’” he said.
“It’s gonna be like, ‘Wow! I really have no idea what is going on here. It’s so different from what I’ve heard in the past.’ But, hopefully it piques their interest to check out the whole album.”
Riser is set to come out this fall. “Bourbon in Kentucky” features Kacey Musgraves singing harmony on the chorus. Check out this clip of the two singers together from rollingstone.com .
