Maybe this proves that Darius Rucker has broken the curse.
Darius' new album, True Believers, sold 83,000 copies in its first week out, landing him his third straight No. 1 country album (out of three) since breaking away from pop band Hootie & the Blowfish.
Other pop stars have had a much tougher time in country music: Jessica Simpson and Jewel, for instance, scored relatively little country radio airplay in comparison.
Darius has had a bump or two along the way. Earlier this month (May 19), Darius got a racist tweet telling him to “leave country music to the white folk.”
That just served to fuel Darius’ drive to succeed. His latest album landed him at No. 2 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart, second only to a huge debut for electronic/dance duo Daft Punk, which scored 339,000 in sales for its latest, Random Access Memories.
