The great thing about attending the Grand Ole Opry is you just never know who is going to show up. On Saturday night (May 18), the Opry crowd received a big, if brief, surprise when Country Music Hall of Famer Barbara Mandrell emerged from the wings.

Jim Ed Brown was midway through his hosting duties when he announced that he had an old friend who wanted to say hello—and out stepped Barbara. As many are aware, the singer doesn’t perform any longer, but that didn’t seem to bother the fans, who cheered when Barbara waved and took an elegant bow.
Barbara also made the rounds backstage, even dropping by to say hello to Canadian country-soul singer Johnny Reid, who was performing that night. Tweeted Johnny:
Barbara's last public appearance at the Opry was at the George Jones memorial service on April 2, where she eulogized the Possum with stories of first meeting the legend.
