Tim McGraw sure knows how to host a party. When in Las Vegas in April for the Academy of Country Music Awards, the singer assembled some of his closest music buddies for an all-star concert taping. The result is Tim McGraw’s Superstar Summer Night, a two-hour special airing this Sunday, May 19, at 9 p.m. ET on CBS that features artists from all genres.
Case in point, rapper Pitbull, who contributed to “Felt Good on My Lips.” Frequent Tim collaborator Ne-Yo also appeared, as did Rock and Roll Hall of Famer John Fogerty, who assembled a who’s who of Nashville’s finest for a rollicking take on Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Born on the Bayou.”

Of course, country was the cornerstone of the evening, with a wealth of up-and-coming acts performing individually and with Tim. And many took the “summer” theme and ran with it. Like Keith Urban, who shredded his way through “Long Hot Summer,” and Dierks Bentley, who burned up Vegas’s MGM Grand Garden Arena with “Summer on Fire.” Tim’s wife, Faith Hill, also brought fireworks with a thrilling take on the classic “Piece of My Heart.”
The most subtle highlight, however, will likely go unseen once the concert is edited down for TV: an a cappella rendition of George Strait’s “You Look So Good in Love” that Tim used as a warm-up between songs. It proved that while Tim can call upon famous friends at the drop of his black hat, he sure doesn’t need them to captivate a crowd.
