Holly Williams, the daughter of Hank Williams Jr. and granddaughter of the legendary Hank Williams, had family on her mind when writing songs for her newly released album, The Highway. In the April 1 issue of Country Weekly, Holly talks about some of the inspiration for the album and the array of guest stars who helped out on several of the tunes.
"Waiting on June," one of the tracks from The Highway, was inspired by her maternal grandparents. "That's a hard one for me to get through every night," Holly says, "because I am so close to it. A lot of my friends and relatives are mentioned." That particular tune features a guest appearance from actress and occasional singer Gwyneth Paltrow. "We were just sitting around one day and I asked if she would sing on this song," Holly remembers. Dierks Bentley shows up on "'Til It Runs Dry," and Holly recalls that Dierks' vocal style fit perfectly with that selection. "Dierks is such an amazing singer and I think he's doing great things for the country genre," Holly says.
The Highway marks Holly's first album in nearly four years. "It took me a while to grow into who I was as a singer and a writer and performer," Holly explains. "Now, I'm saying what I want to say."
