Jake Owen made the No. 1 party for "The One That Got Away" a family affair as he brought wife Lacey and their baby daughter, Olive Pearl, to the bash at the BMI building in Nashville, Thursday (March 7). Jake held his little girl, sporting a cute pink outfit, during the No. 1 ceremony, which also honored Jake's co-writers Jimmy Ritchey and Dallas Davidson and producers Joey Moi and Rodney Clawson. "The One That Got Away" marks Jake's first No. 1 single as a writer.
During the ceremony, Jake and his co-writers received plaques from their song publishers along with commemorative medallions from the Country Music Association. As Jake took the podium, he noted that celebrating with his good buddy Jimmy made the occasion even sweeter. "Jimmy believed in me. He helped me get a record deal and brought me to BMI," Jake said sincerely. "I appreciate you, man."
Before the party, Jake, with baby daughter in tow, met with members of the Nashville entertainment media. Though "The One That Got Away" is his third straight No. 1 hit, he revealed that being a co-writer proved a nice bonus. "It definitely has a different feeling," Jake pointed out. "Not only is it my first No. 1 single as a writer, but I wrote it with Jimmy Ritchey, who is really responsible for helping me. I'm so appreciative of what Jimmy has helped me accomplish. It means a lot to both of us." Meanwhile, little Pearl, as Jake refers to her, could be heard making some gurgling and cooing sounds as Jake fielded questions. "It's her first time on tape," Jake said, laughing.
Jake also recalled that he was on the road on his headlining CMT tour when he received the good news about "The One That Got Away." He joked that he was worried that one of the tour's opening acts, Florida Georgia Line, might surpass him on the charts. "They are two of my best buddies," Jake said, referring to the duo's Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard. "I took them out with me because I really believed in what they were doing." Jake laughed and added, "We were trying to get a No. 1 and they were roaring up the charts with 'Cruise.' It would have been just my luck if they had jumped me [to No. 1]."
Jake's current single, "Anywhere With You," is also moving rapidly up the charts. "It has this breezy, good-time feel," Jake said. "If I was at a concert, that's the kind of song I'd want to hear."
