Jake Owen’s year started out with less of a bang and more of a break when he broke his collarbone after a snowboarding accident in Crested Butte, Colo. While that was a big bump, that may be the only bump Jake truly felt in 2012.
The rest of the year was spent rolling: rolling down the road with Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw on the Brothers of the Sun Tour, then in the latter part of the year, as the headliner on the 11th annual CMT on Tour: The Summer Never Ends. In between tour stops, Jake sold out two shows at the legendary Joe’s on Weed Street in Chicago, and showed off his natural charm during TV sit-downs with Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Jay Leno and Chelsea Handler. And when he could sit still for long enough, he was luring thousands more fans with his hilarious Twitter presence or one of the many intimate online StageIt shows he performed for charity.
Toss in a couple No. 1 singles with “Alone With You” and “The One That Got Away” and the year couldn’t get much better. Until you factor in the two biggest events of Jake’s life, that is—both of which took place in 2012. In May he married girlfriend Lacey Buchanan, and in November the pair welcomed their first child, daughter Olive Pearl.
