So big music stars don't gather around their smartphones to watch and see how their songs are doing on iTunes, do they?
Actually, yes, that's exactly what The Band Perry did last November after debuting "Better Dig Two"—now a No. 1 radio hit—on the Country Music Association awards show.
"At all the CMA after-parties we got to go to, we were watching the [singles sales] charts," Kimberly Perry told reporters, "and you could just see 'Better Dig Two' climbing, climbing, climbing, and then finally hit No. 1 on iTunes before we went to bed."
The band tracked reaction on social media as well.
"For me, Neil, the Twitter geek, it also trended on Twitter that same night," Neil Perry said, "so that was pretty cool seeing how people were taking the song instantly and really relating to it."
As the lead single from TBP's forthcoming sophomore album, Pioneer, due April 2, the song's success was a real relief to the sibling trio.
"Some people say that the first single from your second album is, like, the most important of your whole career," Kimberly said. "So for us, it was absolutely kind of a validating thing to say, 'Alright, here we go, this is off and running.'"
