Dolly Parton is putting her voice behind an effort to save America's chestnut tree.
Dolly has collaborated with singer/songwriter Bill Owens on the song "Oh, Chestnut Tree" to help raise awareness and celebrate the restoration of the tree known as "The Redwood of the East."
The trees, indigenous to the East Tennessee mountains where Dolly grew up, were endangered by blight early in the 20th century. Recently the American Chestnut Foundation has begun plantings of first-generation, blight-resistant seedlings to repopulate the area with the trees, which feed both wildlife and people.
