As an entire nation grapples with the devastating loss of 20 children and six adults in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newton, Conn., last Friday (Dec. 14), the contestants and coaches on NBC's The Voice offered their support the best way they knew how—they sang.
Blake Shelton started out the group's simple yet staggeringly beautiful rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” with fellow coaches Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera each taking lines of the verses while the contestants joined in on the chorus. Each member of the ensemble, including host Carson Daly, held a card bearing the name and age of one of the victims of the shooting.
Following the special performance, Blake sang with two of the three season finalists, Terry McDermott and Cassadee Pope. The winner of The Voice's third season will be announced tonight (Dec. 19).
