Just days before, Dierks Bentley told the local newspaper that this year's Miles and Music fundraiser event in Nashville would be the best in its seven-year history.
"Miles & Music is going to be really special this year,” Dierks said , noting that Brantley Gilbert and Sheryl Crow were set to play. "I think the lineup this year is the best that’s ever been.”
Then the clouds rolled in Sunday morning (Oct. 14).
"Have to postpone Miles & Music today bc of dangerous wind & storms moving into Nashville," Dierks tweeted . "Thx to all for ur support."
Hundreds of bikers were set to join Dierks on a ride through Middle Tennessee, ending up at Riverfront Park in Music City, where Dierks, Sheryl, Brantley, Kix Brooks, Chris Young and Craig Campbell were all set to play.
But, Dierks said on his website , "Safety is the priority."
Still, Dierks added via Twitter, "Can't tell you all how disappointed i am and my team is about today."
Fans who weren't participating in the ride, but were eagerly awaiting the concert downtown, had no way of knowing about the cancellation unless they happened to spot it on Twitter. So Dierks headed to the venue and surprised the faithful with a set at the Hard Rock Cafe adjacent to the park. A bigger surprise came when special guest Sheryl joined him onstage.
A new date for the event has not yet been announced.
