We've been hearing the title single for months, but Kix Brooks, formerly half of Brooks & Dunn, is finally out this week with his solo album, New to This Town.
It has Cajun sounds, it has rock, it has country, it has . . . an identity problem?
"It would have been real easy to get focused on one or the other, but when I was trying to find just 12 songs that went together, all these things kind of felt good together," Kix told reporters recently.
"You know, a part of me just wanted to go there and stay there and just get swampy. As I wrote a lot of songs in that direction, it started feeling kind of redundant to me."
Kix says it's up to the fans now.
"I hope they like it, because I just have so many influences, and I like all different kinds of music. Maybe, hopefully, there's some common thread that runs through this music. It's just sort of the way I've always played and listened and written," he said.
“I don’t know if it's versatile or schizophrenic.”
