Some of the guys on the Washington Nationals were antsier than usual to get a fast win Saturday (Sept. 8) because they had tickets for Jason Aldean's concert that night, and they didn't want to miss it, The Washington Times reports.
In fact, Adam LaRoche, standing on first, ran for an extra base when the next batter singled, sliding headfirst into third base.
His manager, Davey Johnson, joked to reporters: “I mean he’s not your fastest runner. I haven’t seen him slide headfirst ever, so you know emotions were running high.”
But LaRoche was one of the guys who had tickets to the Jason/Luke Bryan show that night in nearby northern Virginia.
“That was crossing my mind rounding second, which I think maybe gave me an extra mile per hour,” LaRoche said of his hunting pals.
“Honestly, my buddies were in town last night at a concert, so we had to win that game in a hurry or we were going to miss that concert,” he said. “There’s my incentive going around the bases.”
