It has been more than a decade since alt-country group The Mavericks have been on country radio with hits such as "Here Comes the Rain" and "What a Crying Shame."
And the just-reunited group is feeling the time lapse, joking about it at CMA Music Festival Sunday (June 10), The Mavericks' first appearance at that festival in eight years.
"We're meeting fans who met us in childhood," said bassist Robert Reynolds. "We're also meeting fans who don't know us from Adam."
"Some fans have died," lead singer Raul Malo interjected.
"A tour of nursing homes is planned for the fall," Robert added, smiling.
The guys have a new single out, "Born to Be Blue," and for them, it's about winning back fans with great songs.
"It’s no doubt about the music, because it’s certainly not about our looks," Raul said, laughing.
