It's finalized, a done deal: ABC is launching a new country music-based drama called Nashville in the fall .
The show—like the movie Country Strong—will feature friction between a veteran star and a young upstart.
The veteran is being played by Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights, American Horror Story) and the young up-and-comer by Hayden Panettiere, the cheerleader on NBC's Heroes.
Hayden tells E! Online that she flirted with a music career when she was 15, going back and forth between rock and pop.
But, she adds, "Something I always loved, I always loved country music. But when you're from New York, people go, 'Country music? Where's the connection there?'"
Hayden says she always had a little twang in her heart: "And it's got such a loyal fan base. And so many of the people I look up to are in country music."
So when the new show was being cast, "I literally was like, 'This is the one. . . . Tell me what to do.'"
Hayden and Connie do all their own singing, and all the songs are originals.
