Keith Urban will become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry on April 21. He was invited to join by friend and Opry member Vince Gill during Keith's We're All for the Hall concert to benefit the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on Tuesday night (April 10).
Midway through the capacity Nashville concert, which featured Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town and Alabama, among others, Vince invited fellow Opry members The Oak Ridge Boys, Diamond Rio and Rascal Flatts out onto the stage to give "a gift" to Keith. As Keith opened a duffel bag, Vince announced, "Ladies and gentlemen, we would like to invite Keith Urban to be the next member of the Grand Ole Opry. Congratulations."
Keith's reaction was heartfelt. "Thank you. Thank you so much," he said. "Oh, my God. I don't know what to say. Thank you so much to everyone at the Grand Ole Opry that made this possible. I'm shocked, I gotta say. It's a huge honor and how beautiful to have this happen tonight of all nights. I so appreciate that.
"I have such a long list of people I want to thank, but I especially want to thank all the fans out there, and also the people of Nashville," he continued. "I always wanted to play the Opry and I'll always remember the first time I played it....I can't thank you enough, so thank you from the bottom of my heart. This means the world to me."
Keith said he shared the honor with his wife, Nicole Kidman, and his daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret.
