Brantley Gilbert has had his share of success over the last 12 months, including a No. 1 single as an artist, "Country Must Be Country Wide," and another as a songwriter, "Dirt Road Anthem," which he co-wrote with Colt Ford for Jason Aldean, but Thursday's (Feb. 9) announcement that he'll compete for the Academy of Country Music's New Artist of the Year award is a big moment for the Georgian. He's up for the award along with Scotty McCreery and Hunter Hayes.
"This definitely stands out," Brantley says from a Tampa, Fla., hotel room. "I'm superexcited. I can't believe the fans and radio both are recognizing and honoring me, not only as a songwriter but as an artist. It means more than you'll ever know."
Meanwhile, Brantley says his current tour with fellow country-rocker Eric Church is a match made in heaven. "We're cut from the same mold," Brantley says of Eric, noting that while the pair has yet to write a song together on the road, "We're working on it."
