Rodney Atkins has been cleared of a charge that he assaulted his wife, and a judge also agreed Wednesday (Feb. 8) to expunge the misdemeanor charge from his record.
"I am so thankful for all those that chose to withhold judgment while keeping my family and I in their prayers," Rodney said in a statement to Nashville newspaper The Tennessean. "God Bless. Onward and upward."
Rodney's wife, Tammy, called police Nov. 21 and accused him of trying to smother her with a pillow, grabbing her face and throwing her down a hallway—all after a night of drinking. Rodney was arrested and released on $2,500 bail within three hours.
Rodney, who filed for divorce after the arrest, went through court-ordered assessments for anger management and drug and alcohol use. Williamson County Judge Denise Andre said no further actions would be taken.
