Eric Church is embarking on his first-ever arena headlining tour, and that has brought an unexpected first-ever problem—scalpers are snatching up hundreds of great tickets for each show and reselling them for lots more money.
Eric is excited about the tour, but angry about true fans having to pay five to 10 times more than face value for good seats.
"Scalpers piss me off," Eric tells billboard.com. "I've never encountered this in my life, we've never been at this level, and, quite frankly, we were unprepared."
What happens is, scalpers join Eric's fan club, the Church Choir, under several different names and e-mail addresses, so they can get up to eight tickets under each name. And that includes tickets in the front row and in the pit in front of the stage.
"We tried to make our tickets very accessible to fans, we kept the ticket prices low," he says. "What we didn't count on was all these big ticket brokers would join our fan club, infiltrate our system, take advantage of our system, and buy up all these tickets."
Eric says his folks are trying as best they can to block scalpers from buying tix to his future shows.
