Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles has shared her thoughts on the August pre-show tragedy in Indianapolis that killed seven fans. Duo partner Kristian Bush had his turn Tuesday night (Nov. 8) on the ABC special In The Spotlight With Robin Roberts: All Access Nashville.
“I was scared. I was scared. I had thought maybe a bomb went off or something,” Kristian told Robin as the duo visited the Indiana State Fairgrounds last month for the first time since the tragedy. “I didn't know. I had no idea.”
High winds toppled staging and scaffolding onto the crowd gathered for the Sugarland show Aug. 13. The band had been waiting in an underground holding area when the accident happened.
“There was dust everywhere,” Kristian said. “It was sad. Everything shook like it was an earthquake.
So how do you respond to such a tragedy? Sugarland played a free show of healing last month at an Indianapolis arena.
“The music thing, I mean really, it's the only thing you can do,” Kristian said. “I feel like it’s the only thing I feel like I can do, is I can go play.”
