Some of country music's biggest stars offered moving ballads Sunday (Oct. 23) at the public memorial service for two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon.
Thousands gathered at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis—home of NBA's Pacers—to pay homage to Wheldon, who died after crashing Oct. 16 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Reba McEnitre opened the memorial with “If I Had Only Known.” The Band Perry sang “Amazing Grace,” and Garth Brooks closed the ceremony with an acoustic version of "The Dance."
Among those impressed with the performances was actress Ashley Judd, who is married to Wheldon's racing teammate Dario Franchitti.
“The Band Perry did a beautiful job,” Ashley tweeted . “Reba & Garth’s contributions were so poignant-sorrowful-true. Music heals.”
Wheldon piloted a car sponsored by Big Machine Records and Curb Records when he won the Indy 500 in May.
