Hank Williams Jr. has offered an apology for his statements to Fox News Channel on Monday (Oct. 3) about President Obama. During his interview on the network, Hank Jr. was critical of a golf game that paired the President with House Speaker John Boehner, a Republican, likening it to Adolf Hitler playing golf with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
His remarks caused controversy and led to ESPN pulling Hank's musical introduction “Are You Ready for Some Football?” from its Monday Night Football telecast.
Hank Jr. apologized for the comments on his website , saying, “I have always been very passionate about politics and sports and this time it got the best and worst of me. The thought of the leaders of both parties jukin’ and high fiven’ on a golf course, while so many families are struggling to get by, simply made me boil over and make a dumb statement, and I am very sorry if I offended anyone. I would like to thank all my supporters. This was not written by some publicist.”
ESPN has not made a decision as to Hank’s future with the network and whether the opening musical spots will air on subsequent Monday Night Football telecasts.
