These days are sweet for newlywed Blake Shelton. He was recently nominated for five Country Music Association Awards (including his first nomination as Entertainer of the Year) and his single “Honey Bee” stayed atop the Billboard country singles chart for four weeks. Members of Nashville's music industry gathered at Warner Bros. Nashville, Blake’s record label home, to celebrate the song’s chart-topping success. “Honey Bee” marks Blake Shelton’s fourth consecutive No. 1 song.
“It wasn’t one of those that you stress out over,” Blake said just prior to the party. "I knew it was a hit when I heard it. It’s just so catchy and so fun. There was no downside to that song.” Despite having a string of No. 1 hits, including “All About Tonight” and “Home,” Blake says “Honey Bee” has taken his career to the next level. “I’ve never had a song that had that kind of impact,” Blake insists. “Who would have though that my signature song would happen 10 years into my career?”
During the event, Warner Bros. Nashville marketing executive Peter Strickland awarded Blake a plaque for the platinum success of “Honey Bee,” which sold more than 1 million digital downloads. Additional awards from the Country Music Association and the Country Radio Broadcasters, Inc., were presented. “We call [the song] ‘Money Bee,’” joked Keith Kauffman of the Country Radio Broadcasters.
Between No. 1 songs and award nominations, Blake has his sights set high. When asked what’s next for the singer, Blake quipped, “We’re going for president!”
