Jason Aldean was happy to celebrate his latest No. 1 hit, “Dirt Road Anthem,” at a party at the BMI offices in Nashville, Tuesday (Aug. 30). Jason and the song’s writers, Colt Ford and Brantley Gilbert, received plaques and accolades from Jason’s label, Broken Bow Records, Country Radio Broadcasters, the Country Music Association and others. But the coolest prize of the afternoon went to Jason’s wife, Jessica.
As the presentations wound to a close, Broken Bow CEO/President Benny Brown stepped to the podium and asked to be allowed a couple of extra minutes. Noting that the wives never receive honors or gifts, Benny announced that the label had a special surprise for Jessica. “Here are the keys to your new Lexus,” he said. Jessica, understandably, was a bit stunned and overcome by the gesture.
Before the party, Jason met with members of the Nashville media to talk about “Dirt Road Anthem” and upcoming plans. “I thought the song was cool,” Jason said, noting that the single was somewhat controversial as it contained elements of rap. “That’s why I wanted to record it. I thought people would like it.” Jason added that he has had other singles stay longer at No. 1. “But this song gets a bigger reaction [in live shows] than anything we have ever had out.” Jason also revealed that he is still on the hunt for new material for his next album, and may get back into the studio in October to start cutting songs.
During the party, guests sipped cherry lemonade, strawberry lemonade and other refreshments. The party menu included mini tenderloin cheeseburgers, melon ball skewers and grilled corn salsa.
