And the album’s first single, “Homeboy,” hasn't even broken into the Top 10 at country radio.
Still, on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart, Eric Church has knocked fellow country crooner Blake Shelton from the top spot. Eric's latest, Chief , is his first-ever No. 1 album on both the all-genre albums chart and the country albums chart.
Eric did that with a larger-than-expected 145,000 copies sold in Chief's first week of sales. The accomplishment impressed Billboard editors.
"Those who may draw a blank when hearing the words ‘Eric Church’ shouldn’t necessarily be faulted. He’s yet to notch a top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and has only gone as high as No. 10 on the radio airplay-powered Hot Country Songs chart,” Billboard wrote . “While he isn’t a superstar act on country radio yet, he’s been steadily building a fan base thanks to touring since his Sinners Like Me album arrived in 2006."
Eric beat out albums from Adele and Kelly Rowland. Jason Aldean's My Kinda Party cracked the Top 5 on the all-genre chart by selling another 42,000 copies, and Blake's Red River Blue is at No. 8 after selling another 31,000 copies.
