Small-town guys and big-city men are set to vie for the heart of a beautiful southern girl from Alabama in the new CMT reality series Sweet Home Alabama. Devin Grissom, a public relations major at the University of Alabama who spends her weekends watching SEC football games, must choose one young man who earns her affection from a group of 20 guys—10 "country boys" and 10 "city slickers."
Devin tells CountryWeekly.com that the show stands out from other reality television series in a couple of ways. “First, they wanted to make sure that I was completely comfortable. They didn’t ask me to do anything I was not comfortable with,” says the Southern belle. “Plus, when I had to reject a guy, I would sit down with him on the show and talk with him and explain why I made the decision I did.”
Devin says that the men may have come to Alabama to film the series from different parts of the country, including Los Angeles, New York City, Jackson, Miss., and Bridgeport, W.Va., but that each was a true gentleman. “I was expecting a big difference, but all of the Northern guys were just as much gentlemen as the Southern guys," she says. "They all treated me with complete respect. You could tell a difference in their upbringing and some of their beliefs, but it taught me a lot more about myself, meeting these people from all sorts of places.
“I was looking for something special, and I think I definitely found it,” Devin says. Sweet Home Alabama debuts Thursday, July 14, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
