Listening to LeAnn’s first best-of collection is like flipping through a photo album at random, seeing snapshots of a (mostly) teenage girl going through phases, trying to find herself.
Within the first three songs, she croons “Blue” like Patsy Cline reincarnated, belts out “How Do I Live” like a full-blown diva, then fires up the mechanical teen-pop of “Can’t Fight the Moonlight.”
Greatest Hits dutifully captures all of LeAnn’s hits in a generous 70 minutes, but such a crazy-quilt track list is continually jarring.
Of course, it also proves the diversity and potential of one of country’s great voices—one that, amazingly, only recently turned 21.
