She's here for the party? Armed with Tanya Tucker's sass and Loretta Lynn's feistiness, Gretchen Wilson is the party. She's blasted to stardom on the strength of "Redneck Woman," a gleeful, gritty kick against country's move away from ... well, country. And while nothing on her debut album matches that peak, she comes close often enough to justify the hype.
I'm the biggest thing that ever came from my hometown / And I'll be damned if I'm gonna let 'em down, Gretchen sings with characteristic bravado in "Pocahontas Proud."
So far, so good.
