***1/2 ItÂs interesting to note what hasnÂt been included on TimÂs second volume of hits: lighthearted fare like the Top 5 ÂDo You Want Fries With That and the No. 1 ÂBack When are nowhere to be found. Reflected defines the last several years as a period of deepening maturity and seriousness for the guy who became a star over a decade ago singing the goofy ÂIndian Outlaw.Â
Reflected collects most of TimÂs hits since 2000Âs first Greatest Hits volume, and also reaches back for a couple of songs the previous CD missed, 1994Âs ÂNot a Moment Too Soon and 1997Âs exquisite ÂEverywhere. Both songs deserve a place here, although the difference in production style makes for a jarring transition from the surrounding tracksÂas does the inclusion of TimÂs smash duet with rapper Nelly, the R&B-flavored hip-hop track ÂOver and Over.Â
That song signals TimÂs broadening horizons, as do the four new tunes included. The inclusive ÂIÂve Got Friends That Do (one of two co-writing credits for Tim, a first) and a take on alt-country singer/songwriter Ryan Adams moody ÂWhen the Stars Go Blue promise many intriguing developments to come between now and Greatest Hits Vol. 3.
