Only 20, Blaine has one of those towering redwood baritones that destines a man to sing country music. This sophomore effort finds the Seattle native growing into that roomy voice a bit more, and bringing his personality into clearer focus. Blaine’s debut, Off to Join the World, focused on teenage concerns, but Rockin’ You Tonight is adult from the title on down. The shift is mostly successful, although the cover of Mac Davis’ smarmy ”Baby Don’t Get Hooked on Me” is an ill fit for a squeaky-clean character like Blaine. Still, this is a confident step forward from a promising talent.
