Roy Clark is one of the last of the great all-around entertainers—singer, multi-instrumentalist, comedian, he’s always done it all. Timeless offers up plenty of evidence for that, capturing the then-star of Hee Haw in his 1970s onstage prime backed by a hot-to-trot band. (The tracks here are drawn more or less equally from 1972’s Roy Clark Live! and 1976’s In Concert.) Whether tossing out a self-deprecating joke or ripping a blazing solo on guitar, fiddle or banjo—or doing both at once, as on “Orange Blossom Special”—Roy is in fine form throughout these 17 tracks.
