Country music recording artist John Berry and the Christian Country Music Association (CCMA) have put together a special auction package for eBay's "Auction For America," that will consist of a pair of tickets to the upcoming Christian Country Music Awards, a meet and greet with John Berry as well as autographed John Berry merchandise.
Announced by Governor Pataki and Mayor Giulliani on Sept. 17, "Auction for America" is eBay's online charity effort to raise money for the victims, their families and communities affected by the horrific events of September 11.
The company has challenged itself, through its community of 34 million registered users, to raise $100 million in 100 days. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to several charities, including the September 11 Fund and the Twin Towers Fund.
"I believe that now is the time to pitch in and do whatever you can," says Berry. "I think 'Auction For America' is a great way for people around the country to help those who were affected by these horrible acts of terror.
The continued support of Americans across the country has been extraordinary."
John Berry, who is co-hosting the Christian Country Music Awards on November 1st at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, will donate two tickets available for bids at www.ebay.com .
In addition, the highest bidder will also receive an opportunity to meet John backstage as well as autographed merchandise including T-shirts, CD's and posters. Nominees for the "2001 CCMA Awards" include an exciting mix of new and established mainstream country artists such as Brad Paisley, Merle Haggard, Randy Travis, Jeff Carson, Keith Urban, Jamie O'Neal and Jessica Andrews. Presenters and/or performers include Jeff Carson, Merle Haggard, Tammy Cochran, Marty Raybon, Stella Parton, Larry Gatlin, Chris Sanders (Tennessee Titan football), Bryan White, as well as co-hosts John Berry and Crystal Gayle. The 2001 CCMA Awards will be telecast on the Entertainment That Counts Network (ETC).
Berry, who has a long history of community involvement, recently performed a benefit concert sponsored by radio station KUZZ in Bakersfield, CA to benefit the Twin Towers Orphan Foundation. Berry performed songs from his forthcoming album, All The Way To There, which is set for release on October 16 on Ark 21 Records/Universal Music Distribution.
In addition to eBay's customer support available online, the company has set up a toll-free number to help new users who may not be familiar with the site to participate in "Auction for America."
Beginners will be paired with experienced eBay community members who have volunteered to help the effort. The number, (866) 272-1053, is staffed from 5 am to 11 pm Pacific Time seven days a week.
