Reba McEntire has just recently finished shooting the video for her newest single, “Sweet Music Man.”
The video was originally intended to be dedicated to the “outlaws” of country music—Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings.
However, once Reba heard the news of Waylon Jennings’ death , everything changed.
“When I heard that Waylon had died, it really affected me,” said Reba. “I wasn’t just a fan of his music, I admired the man himself. I thought since this song was about him, it would only be appropriate that the video be dedicated solely to him. He has inspired so many people with his music.”
“Sweet Music Man” was originally written and sung by Kenny Rogers in 1977. According to the story, Rogers was on a plane from LA to Nashville and sat next to Jennings’ wife, Jessi Colter. The two got to talking, and Jessi shared some of her thoughts about life with Waylon, which inspired Rogers to write the song.
