Although unconfirmed, it has been reported that Alan Jackson is one of the artists who will participate in the "Concert for America," to be broadcast on NBC.
The concert marks the first anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C.
First Lady Laura Bush has confirmed that she will take part, saying that she hopes it "will allow us to use the arts to soothe our emotions."
Other artists rumored to take part in the concert include Gloria Estefan, Placido Domingo and poet Maya Angelou. So far, members of the National Symphony Orchestra are the only confirmed musical performers.
While NBC is planning a special prime-time concert to mark the anniversary, rival networks plan to stay with straight news coverage. Recalling last year's "Concert for New York" and how it helped the general mood of the public, NBC anchor Tom Brokaw said that music is "an important and necessary ingredient" when covering the terrorist tragedy.
