Visiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Sherrie Austin announced that she will contribute 25 cents from the royalties of each sale of her new CD, Streets of Heaven, to the hospital.
The album's track, co-written by Austin, is about a mother's plea to God on behalf of her sick child and stems from an emotional time in Austin's life when her brother was sick and in the hospital.
"I remember watching my mother walking up and down those cold hospital corridors when my little brother was ill, fighting her battles with God," she remembers. "The moment that 'Streets of Heaven' was written, my hope was that this song could help heal and comfort the families that are going through a similar situation. We did not have a place like St. Jude in Australia when my brother was sick."
This marks the first time a female recording artist has set aside a portion of the proceeds from the sale of an album as a donation to the hospital.
Continued Sherrie: "Country music has always had such a wonderful relationship with St. Jude, and I'm proud to contribute to the hospital's excellent work."
